About High Deductible Health Plans and Health Savings Accounts
Health savings accounts are tax advantaged trust or custodial accounts
created for the benefit of an individual covered under a qualified
high deductible health plan. Contributions to the HSA can be made by the
employee, his/her employer or family members. HSAs are portable; the
employee owns the HSA and takes it when leaving employment. Unused
balances in the HSA accumulate to future years.
Most of the insurance companies in Oregon have HSA
qualified Health Plans. You need to set up a HSA qualified health
policy then you can set up the HSA with a bank or financial institution.
